Celebrate Your Small Sucesses!

As you journey on your writing career, you must learn to celebrate you.  When you were young, I'm sure you remember how it felt when your birthday was a family celebration.  You'd reached another year.  Or, when you graduated middle school, high school, or college.  There was a huge celebration , everyone came.  Remember that feeling of happiness and joy.  Well, you must do the same with your writing.  Each small step you take as a writer should make you feel excited, and proud.  Treat yourself, go out to lunch, just enjoy the feeling of finishing  something, after all the struggles you went through to get to this point.  Perhaps you can share it in a group, at a library, with your family, and friends to encourage others.  Maybe you sent your story off and it was rejected.  Yes, celebrate that too.  You're a writer, and in the company of other writers. Rejection is just a part of the business, so smile and move on, but learn from it.   Never let that stop you, you're a fighter, and success is just around the corner.  When you do sell a story, tell the world about it.  It's an accomplishment.  Post it on your wall, with a copy of that first check.  Find places to read your story to.  Libraries are good at that., they usually love to push local authors.  Maybe your local newspaper, radio station, or television station, would love to interview you, and hear about the success of one of their home town authors. This will build your confidence as a writer.  Success doesn't come easy, it comes one small step at a time, so when it comes, CELEBRATE IT!
