"More Precious Than Gold"

She was awakened by the rays of the sun shining in her eyes from the bedroom window, and the warmth of Ethan’s arms wrapped tightly around her. It was morning.  She could hear the soft rhythm of his heart beating beneath her head, that was nestled softly against his chest. She yawned silently, not wanting to awaken him.  Not wanting to leave the comfort of his arms.  She felt safe, protected, as she snuggled closer to him, and closed her eyes. His breath was warm against her face, like a Summer breeze.  She gently rubbed her face against his cheek, feeling the tiny bristles that were waiting to be shaved, and smiled. She never thought they would share a bed again, or be close again, as man and wife.  But last night they were, and she had no regrets. He was her beloved, and like the Shulammite maiden in her favorite story of the Song of Solomon, her heart was alive again.  Suddenly her favorite verse rolled from her lips.

                               “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth:

                                              for love is sweeter than wine.”
